Your Counsellor

Transition Counselling is operated by Marie Fernandes and based in West London.

About me

I’m a fully qualified, professional therapist, accredited and registered by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  I’ve undertaken extensive training in counselling and have accumulated many years of experience in client work. In addition to private practice, I have worked as a counsellor in a range of settings including a London university (seeing students and staff), a Hospice and Bereavement Counselling service and  a leading UK mental health charity.  As a member of the BACP I am committed to meeting ongoing requirements for training and supervision the maintain the standards of my practice.

My Work

Transition is a general counselling service as I work with clients across a wide range of presenting issues.  However many of those who attend for therapy are affected by problems around anxiety, depression and low self esteem.

I specialise in working with clients who have been adversely impacted by trauma, often in childhood and often unacknowledged.  In recent years my professional development has centred on working with the issues related to these experiences and their impact on self esteem, relationships and health.

I always practise ethically to ensure that clients remain at the centre of the process and that they are getting the best therapy possible.

As a counsellor my approach is integrative.  This means that, rather than working with a single mode or theory, the therapy I offer is tailored towards presenting issues and individual needs and requirements.  This allows me to be more focused on my clients and work flexibly towards the outcomes they wish to achieve. Always at the heart of my work is building a strong effective therapeutic relationship to offer the best possible outcomes.

Why Transition?

In my many years of client work I have found that it’s often change, or transition, which offers people the greatest challenges in life.  This may be a desire for change in order to better deal with incidences from the past or anticipated alterations in our future lives.  It could be that there are difficulties faced in managing everyday life, which need to be addressed.  Or support may be needed in navigating difficult or unlooked for change such as death or divorce.
